Description

CWMA Live Webinar: Prioritizing Effort - Make Every Penny Count

Speaker:
Terri Hogan, NPS Invasive Plant Program Manager

Synopsis:
Working to manage invasive plant infestations poses many challenges. Prioritizing and leveraging our efforts improves our chances of success. Identifying management strategies on which to focus such as prevention and early detection and rapid response, taking advantage opportunities to collaborate to leverage our efforts, and making use of accessible online tools all improve our effectiveness and efficiency. I will briefly discuss a range of management strategies, potential collaborators managing or developing resources to support management of invasive plants, and some online tools available or being developed to facilitate invasive plant management.

Speaker Bio:
Terri Hogan has been a plant ecologist for nearly 30 years and is the national lead for the National Park Service (NPS) Invasive Plant Program that addresses threats posed by invasive plant species to NPS resources. She also oversees the NPS Invasive Plant Management Team (IPMT) program that provides invasive plant management support and expertise to units of the national park system. She has natural and cultural resource management experience in national parks and has worked on landscape scale collaborative efforts, is a cofounder of the Tennessee Cooperative Weed Management Area (TN CWMA), served as president of the Tennessee Exotic Pest Plant Council (TN-EPPC) for four years, and is active in a range of interagency and non-governmental organization committees and work groups working on invasive species issues.
